Shanghai, Seoul mayors talk stronger links
上海首尔友好交流签约 杨雄会见首尔特别市市长

Shanghai Mayor Yang Xiong met a South Korean delegation led by Mayor of Seoul Park Won-soon yesterday. The two cities signed an agreement for exchanges and cooperation.

Yang said China and South Korea are friendly neighbors. Exchange visits by the leaders of the two countries strengthened bilateral friendship and laid a solid foundation for cooperation between Shanghai and Korean cities such as Seoul and Jeollanam-do.

Yang said Shanghai has strong trade ties with South Korea. Seoul, as the capital of South Korea, has good experiences in economic development and urban management which are worth learning.

He noted that both cities have high population density and face the same problems in urban development. The two city governments can work together to solve these problems.

Park thanked Shanghai for taking care to preserve the old building of his country’s provisional government in exile in Shanghai during Japan’s occupation of the Korea Peninsula.

He spoke highly of Shanghai’s dynamic development and said easy travel between the two cities has brought more and more Chinese tourists and businesspeople to South Korea.

Park said he hoped the new agreement signed by the two cities will increase their exchanges in economy, culture and art.

South Korean consul general in Shanghai, Gu Sang-chan, was present at the meeting.
