SHANGHAI Party Secretary Han Zheng and Mayor Yang Xiong met their Shenzhen counterparts Wang Rong and Xu Qin on July 24.
Han said Shenzhen is a forerunner in China’s reform and opening and is a role model for Shanghai. Pudong’s development was inspired by Shenzhen, a boom city bordering Hong Kong.
He said Shanghai is following the instructions of the central government and President Xi Jinping to spearhead China’s reform and opening. The city is striving to enhance its competitiveness and developing into an international center of research and innovation.
The Party chief then briefed the guests on the construction of China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone and said administrative reform and creative policies tested in the zone will be introduced elsewhere in China.
Han said he hoped Shanghai and Shenzhen can cooperate, share experiences and develop together to contribute to China’s reform.
Shenzhen Party Secretary Wang Rong said the Shenzhen government delegation came to Shanghai mainly to learn about the free trade zone.
He said the Shanghai FTZ introduced a series of reform measures in less than a year and has become a role model for the entire country. Shenzhen transformed from a village into a big city in a span of 30 years by practicing market economy.
He said Shenzhen officials will learn from Shanghai and other cities in areas of reform and opening, urban management, administration by law, and borrowing international standards and practices.
Shanghai leaders Yin Hong and Shi Guanghui and Shenzhen leaders Bai Tian and Wang Suiming joined the meeting.
