Shanghai mayor meets Swiss finance minister

MAYOR Ying Yong met Ueli Maurer, a member of the Swiss Federal Council and the Swiss finance minister, in Shanghai last week.
Ying said Shanghai is aiming to become a free trade zone that follows international standards and practices in trade, investment, supervision and administration. The municipal government is promoting the development of Shanghai Pilot Free Trade Zone and the city’s rise as an international financial center compatible with China’s economic status and yuan’s influence.
He said Shanghai and Switzerland have a lot in common and should learn from each other. The Shanghai government is keen to expand cooperation with Switzerland in different fields and enjoy fruits of cooperation within the framework of Sino-Swiss Innovative Strategic Partnership.
Maurer said Switzerland and China have a long-term, friendly relationship. Both Switzerland and Shanghai are financial centers with huge development potentials.
He said both sides should seize the opportunity to deepen cooperation and achieve win-win outcomes.
Swiss Ambassador to China, Dr. Jean-Jacques de Dardel, joined their meeting.
