Shanghai officials visit Dubai, Abu Dhabi
共建“一带一路”开展务实合作 杨雄率市政府代表团访问阿联酋
A Shanghai government delegation led by Mayor Yang Xiong visited United Arab Emirates this week and was received by UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Emir of Dubai Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
They also met UAE cabinet ministers, leaders of executive councils of Abu Dhabi and Dubai, and Dubai Municipality officials.
In his meeting with Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Yang said Shanghai wants to play a key role in building China-UAE relationship and is keen to expand cooperation with Dubai in free trade zone development, finance, trade and tourism so as to contribute to the “One Belt, One Road” program initiated by Chinese President Xi Jinping.
He said Shanghai is also willing to share its experiences of hosting the World Expo with Dubai which will host Expo 2020.
Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum said United Arab Emirates and China have friendly relationship and have a lot of room for cooperation in the “One Belt and One Road” initiative. Shanghai’s development and Expo 2010 gave him a deep impression. Dubai and Shanghai can play a bigger role in building China-UAE friendship and ties.
In a separate meeting with Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Yang said the cooperation agreements signed by Shanghai and Abu Dhabi represent a concrete step in the “One Belt and One Road” initiative. Shanghai hopes to cooperate closely with Abu Dhabi in economy, trade, finance, science and technology, culture, and sports.
The crown prince spoke highly of Shanghai’s contribution to China-UAE friendship and said Yang’s visit will boost bilateral relationship to a new level. He added that Abu Dhabi wants to cooperate with Shanghai in many areas.
On May 5, Yang attended a roundtable on Shanghai-Dubai investment and trade system innovation and visited the city’s Jebel Ali Free Zone, which is the biggest free trade zone in the Middle East and contributes over 30 percent of Dubai’s GDP.
The Shanghai delegation also participated in the signing of a number of cooperation agreements with Abu Dhabi Executive Council, Dubai Economic Council, and Abu Dhabi Holding.
Chinese ambassador to UAE, Chang Hua, and Chinese consul general to Dubai, Tang Weibing joined some activities during the delegation’s visit.
