THE CPPCC Shanghai Committee chairman Wu Zhiming met István Jakab, deputy speaker of the National Assembly of Hungary last Friday as he visited the Hungarian capital of Budapest.

Wu briefed Jakab on Shanghai’s economic and social development, particularly the city’s endeavor to become an international center of economy, finance, shipping and trade and a global innovation center.

He also talked about the Shanghai Free Trade Zone, the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, and China’s “One Belt, One Road” initiatives.

Hungary, an important country in central Europe, has traditional friendship with China. The Hungarian-Slovak architect named Ladislav Hudec designed many landmark buildings in Shanghai in 1920s and ’30s, including the Park Hotel and the Grand Theater, Wu said, adding that Shanghai is keen to enhance ties and cooperation with Hungary.

Jakab said the two countries have improved mutual trust and strengthened economic and trade ties. The National Assembly of Hungary will vigorously promote Hungary-China relationship and make Hungary the beachhead of China-Europe economic integration.

Wu also paid a visit to Hungarian agricultural minister and the mayor of Budapest, attended a forum of Chinese and Hungarian entrepreneurs and had discussions with officials of the Hungarian-Chinese Friendship Association.

Earlier, Wu visited Poland and met Lower House deputy speaker of the Polish Parliament, Jerzy Wenderlich.

Wenderlich said China’s development is impressive to the world. He always cites the Chinese model when he talked about development. A strong Poland-China relationship is the consensus of the Polish Parliament.

Wu attended a photo exhibition in Pomerania, Poland, featuring the four seasons of Shanghai and attended a business forum there. Chinese Ambassador to Poland Xu Jian and Chinese Ambassador to Hungary Xiao Qian also attended the two events.

Shanghai has sisterly relationship with Pomerania Province and the city of Budapest.

Wu and his delegation next will visit Serbia under the invitation of Belgrade city government. They will visit Serbian National Assembly deputy speaker Veroljub Arsi膰 and Mayor of Belgrade Sinisa Mali.
