Yang Xiong meets Dallas and Forth Worth mayors

SHANGHAI Mayor Yang Xiong met his American counterparts Mike Rawlings from Dallas and Betsy Price from Fort Worth on September 22.

Yang congratulated on the launch of direct flights between Dallas and Shanghai, saying Shanghai has strong economic ties with the United States, particularly with its sister cities such as San Francisco and Chicago.

He said Dallas not only has many of the world’s top 500 companies but also Dallas Mavericks, which is well known to NBA fans in Shanghai. He said Shanghai is keen to develop cooperation with American cities such as Dallas and Fort Worth.

The opening of direct flights between Shanghai and Dallas will boost bilateral exchanges and cooperation in trade, culture, education, health care and tourism, the mayor said.

Rawlings made a brief introduction about his city and said Dallas is one of the fastest growing cities in the United States and is home to such Global 500 corporations as Texas Instruments Inc and AT&T.

He said the launch of direct flights will enhance exchanges between the two cities and he welcomes Shanghai citizens to visit Dallas for business and sightseeing.

Price said Fort Worth is the second largest city in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metropolitan area and is the origin of America’s cowboy culture.

She said her city will benefit from the direct flights between Shanghai and Dallas.

The new US consul-general in Shanghai, Hanscom Smith, was present at the meeting.
