Yang Xiong meets Elaine Chao, former US secretary of labor

MAYOR Yang Xiong met former US Secretary of Labor, Elaine Chao, and her family in Shanghai last Wednesday.
Yang spoke highly of Chao’s role in promoting Sino-US friendship and exchanges and thanked her father James S. C. Chao’s long-term contribution to his hometown of Shanghai in education and economic development.
Yang said Shanghai is continuing reform and opening. The Shanghai Free Trade Zone has operated smoothly for over a year and made achievements in administrative reform and legislative innovation, which boosted investment and facilitated trade.
Elaine Chao and James S. C. Chao expressed their strong attachment to Shanghai, their hometown, and said they will continue to pay close attention to Shanghai’s development.
They also promised to continue to promote mutual understanding and friendship between China and the United States.
