Yang Xiong meets Finnish guests from sister city of Espoo
携手共建创新合作网络 杨雄会见埃斯波市市长

MAYOR Yang Xiong met Jukka Mäkelä, visiting mayor of Espoo, Finland, and his delegation last Friday. Yang said Shanghai and Espoo became sister cities 16 years ago and their exchanges and cooperation are bearing fruits and benefitting the people of both cities.

Yang said the two countries have upgraded their relationship to cooperative partnership, laying a good foundation for increased trade and cooperation.

The mayor said Shanghai is pursuing innovation-driven economic growth and wants to learn from Finland’s experiences. He hoped the two cities can cooperate and form an innovation network made up of universities, companies and technology parks.

He noted that Shanghai is carrying out administrative reform and legislative innovation in the China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone to facilitate investments and trade. There are plenty of opportunities for cooperation between the two cities in areas of environmental protection, health care, agriculture, technology, and creative industries.

Mäkelä said Espoo is keen to make contributions to the two countries’ relationship and cooperative partnership based on 16 years of cooperation with Shanghai.

He said Espoo and Shanghai can work together to tackle challenges such as aging population and environmental deterioration and to develop new technologies, new industries and new business models.

Finnish Consul General in Shanghai, Marja Joenusva, joined the meeting.
