杨雄晤韩国全罗南道知事 欢迎利用自贸区赢得机遇

SHANGHAI Mayor Yang Xiong met Lee Nak-Yon, visiting governor of Jeollanam-do, a South Korean province, last Friday.

Yang expressed his appreciation that Lee chose Shanghai for his first overseas trip after taking the office. This showed that he put relations and cooperation with Shanghai as a priority in his agenda.

Shanghai and Jeollanam-do have enjoyed good cooperation in trade, agriculture and culture since they established sisterly relationship in 1996. The two sides supported each other when Shanghai hosted World Expo 2010 and Jeollanam-do hosted Expo 2012 Yeosu, the mayor said.

Many South Koreans are working and living in Shanghai as their companies are here, and more and more Shanghai enterprises are investing in South Korea, Yang added.

He welcomed South Korean companies to take advantages of the Shanghai Pilot Free Trade Zone to develop business in China.

Lee briefed Yang and other Shanghai officials on social and economic development in Jeollanam-do. He thanked Shanghai for taking care to preserve the old building of his country’s provisional government in exile in Shanghai during Japan’s occupation of the Korea Peninsula.

Lee said he pays much attention to the experiences of the Shanghai FTZ and he believes Jeollanam-do and Shanghai can benefit more from increased exchanges and cooperation.

South Korean consul general in Shanghai, Gu Sang-chan, was present at the meeting.
