SHANGHAI Mayor Yang Xiong and Liu Shiyu, chairman of the China Securities Regulatory Commission, met Juan Pablo Cordoba, chairman of the World Federation of Exchanges, on Tuesday before the federation’s board meeting in Shanghai.

Yang said Shanghai’s financial market continued to grow in recent years and is now a comprehensive system covering stocks, bonds, foreign currencies, commodities, futures, OTC derivatives, and gold.

He said the Shanghai Free Trade Zone is a testing ground for the country’s financial reform and innovation. People attending the board meeting of the World Federation of Exchanges are welcome to offer advice on developing the capital market in Shanghai and share experiences with their Shanghai colleagues.

Cordoba said he felt honored to hold the WFE annual meeting in Shanghai. China is changing the world in all fields and China’s financial market has played a key role in the process.

He said Shanghai continues to lead stock and futures exchanges in China and WFE looks forward to expanding cooperation with Shanghai in the hope that the city can play a bigger role in international financial markets.

Wu Qing, chairman of Shanghai Stock Exchange, was also present at the meeting.

The World Federation of Exchanges was founded in London in 1961 and is a trade association of 64 publicly regulated stock and futures exchanges, including Shanghai Stock Exchange and five other Chinese exchanges.
