Yang Xiong meets delegation from sister city in NZ
为合作交流提供新机遇 杨雄会见达尼丁市市长戴夫•卡尔

SHANGHAI Mayor Yang Xiong met a delegation from Dunedin, a city in New Zealand, led by his counterpart Dave Cull, on Saturday.

Yang said Shanghai and Dunedin have been sister cities for 21 years and both enjoyed regular exchanges and cooperation.

He told the guests that the Shanghai Free Trade Zone is operating smoothly. The city government has adopted a series of policies to stimulate financial innovation and to facilitate foreign investment.

As Shanghai is striving to become a global innovation center, there are new opportunities for the two cities to cooperate in economy, education, science and technology, Yang said, noting that New Zealand is a popular travel destination and a good place for education. The two cities can intensify cooperation based on bilateral agreements.

Cull said Dunedin attaches great importance to its ties with Shanghai. Exchanges between the two sister cities over the past 21 years have born fruits, but there is still room for more cooperation to benefit the people of both cities.

New Zealand Consul General in Shanghai Guergana Guermanoff was present at the meeting.
