Yang Xiong meets visiting Quebec premier
杨雄会见加拿大魁北克省省长

SHANGHAI Mayor Yang Xiong received Quebec premier, Philippe Couillard, from Canada in Hengshan Hotel on Monday. He thanked Quebec and Montreal for their support to World Expo 2010 Shanghai.

Yang said Shanghai and Montreal have been sister cities for nearly 30 years and Shanghai established the same relationship with Quebec in 2011. Both sides cooperated well in education, science, culture and health care, and there are still potentials for further cooperation because Quebec has many high-tech companies, a strong financial sector and plentiful resources.

The mayor said Shanghai is accelerating the construction of China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone, which is important for China’s continuing reform and opening-up. The FTZ is a good opportunity for companies in both countries to expand cooperation.

He said Shanghai welcomes Canadian enterprises to cooperate with Chinese partners in culture, energy, environmental protection and the construction of Shanghai International Tourism Zone.

Couillard said Quebec is rich in natural resources. His visit to Shanghai was fruitful as members of his delegation singed numerous cooperation agreements with Shanghai partners. He hoped the two sides can cooperate more in economy, culture and carbon trading.

Riccardo Savone, Canadian consul-general in Shanghai, was present at the meeting.
