Yang Xiong talks with WPP CEO Martin Sorrell

Shanghai Mayor Yang Xiong met WPP Group CEO Martin Sorrell, the newly-elected chairman of the International Business Leaders’ Advisory Council in the Expo Center on Sunday.
Yang congratulated Sorrell on his election and said the council has attracted more and more foreign businesspeople since it was founded more than 20 years ago. This year’s meeting has yielded many good suggestions for the city of Shanghai.
This year’s council meeting focused on how to make Shanghai a global innovation center and how to match it with better cultural life, education and environment, Yang said.
The mayor said he believed the council members, led by Sorrell, will continue to provide their expertise and insight for Shanghai’s innovation-driven economy.
Sorrell said he felt honored to be elected the council chairman and will start working on next year’s agenda with a focus on the city’s drive to become a global innovation center.
He said he would discuss the agenda with fellow council members and continue to pay attention to the city’s development in various fields and to provide valuable suggestions for the city.
Sorrell succeeded Orit Gadiesh, chairwoman of the US consulting firm, Bain & Company, as the council chairman for next year’s meeting.
