Ying Yong meets Victorian premier, UK ambassador

SHANGHAI Mayor Ying Yong met Daniel Andrews, premier of Victoria, Australia and Dame Barbara Woodward, British ambassador to China, separately on Tuesday.

Ying told the visitors that Shanghai is China’s economic center and is becoming an international center of economy, finance, trade and shipping. It is aiming to complete the structure of a global innovation city by 2020 and have the core features of a global metropolis by 2030.

He said Shanghai has cooperated well with Victoria State and London since they established sister-state and sister-city relationships. Shanghai wants to enhance exchanges and cooperation with them in trade, science and technology, education, health and tourism.

Andrews and Woodward said Shanghai is a world-famous city with tremendous achievements in recent years. They want to explore for more cooperation potentials and to increase exchanges on a variety of issues.

John Edwards, British consul-general in Shanghai, joined the meeting with Woodward.
