SHANGHAI Mayor Ying Yong met Pawin Chamniprasat, visiting governor of Chiang Mai Province, Thailand, on May 22.

Ying said China and Thailand are good neighbors with long and close friendship. Shanghai and Chiang Mai have enjoyed cooperation in tourism, culture, science and technology and public administration since they became sister cities in 2000.

He said Shanghai is keen to expand economic and trade ties with Chiang Mai and increase exchanges of public servants and young people within the framework of China-Thailand comprehensive strategic partnership and the Belt and Road Initiative.

The mayor said both Shanghai and Chiang Mai are world-famous tourist destinations. The two sides should implement the tourism cooperation agreement signed last year to achieve win-win results.

He added that Shanghai joined the UNESCO Creative Cities Network as the “City of Design”. It wants to share its experiences with Chiang Mai.

Chamniprasat said Chiang Mai’s ties with Shanghai have grown through cooperation in culture, tourism and trade. The Thai province is eager to learn from Shanghai’s experiences and promote innovation in many aspects.

The governor said he wants to hear from Shanghai people and other Chinese tourists regarding their travels in Chiang Mai so as to improve tourism services for them.
