A-level circular issued for suspect in ax killings

AN A-level wanted circular was issued for a man who allegedly hacked eight people to death with an ax in Hubei Province, the Ministry of Public Security said today.

Meng Jianzhu, head of the ministry, requested policemen to solve the criminal case as soon as possible, according to a Changjiang Times report.

It was the third A-level wanted circular issued nationwide this year.

Rewards of 5,000 yuan (US$731) to 100,000 yuan have been offered to people who provide information that leads to the capture and conviction of suspect Xiong Zhenlin, 35, a Hubei native.

Police said Xiong called his mother about 3am on Monday. He told her to collect some valuables at his waste recycling station and never contact him in the future, according to the report.

Xiong visited his ex-wife's adopted daughter on Sunday, the report said.

The manhunt began on Monday after 42-year-old Zhu Deqing and her 2-year-old grandson Zou Chuanshuo were found dead in their home in Suizhou City's Luoyang Town.

Police found six more bodies at Xiong's waste recycling station. Those victims, all in their 50s or 60s, were Xiong's employees.

Police said they found a blood-stained ax, hammer and fork that were used in the killings.

A preliminary police investigation revealed that a recent conflict between Xiong and Zhu might have sparked the killings as the woman turned down his marriage proposal.

Xiong then sought to remarry his ex-wife, but she also rejected him.

Xiong's relationship with his ex-wife went sour after he became rich, the report said.

He lived at Zhu's home after getting divorced in 2005. But he returned to his own place before the killings, according to the report.

Zhu's husband died years ago. Her son and daughter-in-law were working away from home.

Autopsies were done on the bodies and relatives of the victims have claimed the corpses to begin funeral arrangements, the report said.
