Charges over drowning

POLICE are preparing to charge a man in east China's Jiangsu Province who has admitted drowning his mentally challenged wife after falling in love with a sex worker.

The 40-year-old man, who lived in the suburbs of Nanjing City, reported his wife missing late on December 16, according to the Nanjing-based Modern Express.

He told police that he didn't find his wife at home when he came back from a neighbor's poker game.

However, his brother-in-law said the man's wife never strayed more than 200 meters from their home and always followed family members' instructions.

Police questioned the man again and he told them he left home about 6pm and played poker with neighbors until 10pm. But the neighbors said he joined them at about 7pm and left at 11pm.

Police were also told the man regularly visited sex workers.

His wife's body was discovered on December 20 in a pool 500 meters from the home.

The man was questioned again by local police and later confessed that he drowned his wife in order to marry a sex worker he had met at a local beauty salon.
