Chinese directors honored at Montreal
FILM director Wang Quan'an has won two awards at The 33rd Montreal World Film Festival, Xinhua news agency reported today.
His film "Weaving Girl" won a Special Jury Prize and Ecumenical Award at the film festival which closed yesterday.
"When I arrived in Montreal, I immediately loved this city. When I'm leaving, the city loves me," Wang said at the award ceremony. Wang also won the Golden Bear with "Tuya's Marriage" in 2007.
Another Chinese director, Gu Jun, won a lifetime achievement award for "The Everlasting Flame: Beijing Olympics 2008" filmed at the closing ceremony.
The Grand Prix des Amériques for films in official competition went to the Roma gipsy chronicler Tony Gatlif for "Korkoro" (Freedom).
The Montreal International Film Festival is one of five prominent film festivals in the world.
