Doctor suspended after baby's death
NANJING Children's Hospital has suspended a doctor after a five-month old baby died of an eye infection while the parents alleged he was playing computer games.
Investigation has began on the doctor surnamed Mao after the parents alleged on an Internet post that Mao had ignored their frantic pleas to call an emergency doctor after the baby began gasping for air.
The baby surnamed Xu died an hour later in the early hours of November 4, reported Shanghai Morning Post today.
However, hospital officials have ruled out Mao's responsibility in the baby's death, and police have ordered an autopsy to determine the cause.
They said Xu had been transferred to the hospital from a clinic with an eye infection and given timely and proper treatment.
