Former official to serve 18 years in jail
FORMER Vice Governor of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Sun Yu has been sentenced to 18 years in prison for corruption and accepting bribes, China News Service reported yesterday.
Nanning Intermediate People's Court also confiscated 1 million yuan (US$146,199).
Sun asked other people to invent projects and swindled 3.2 million yuan from the provincial government between 2004 and 2006, the court in Guangxi heard.
Sun asked for money or property and accepted bribes worth 3.28 million yuan by helping others obtain raw materials and fulfill timber quotas.
Sun served as vice governor of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region from 1998 to 2007.
