Girl, 11, has needle removed from brain
A WOMAN has called for police investigation after a needle was found in her 11-year-old daughter's brain.
The girl had the needle surgically removed yesterday at Chengdu Military General Hospital in southwest China's Sichuan Province and has recovered, today's Chengdu Evening News reported.
The needle had delayed the girl's physical and mental development and the girl only has the intelligence of a child of three, according to doctors.
The girl often cried and ran a fever, which mother Yang Xiaohui blamed on poor health, the newspaper said. She was unable to walk or speak until 6 years old, Yang said.
The needle was first discovered in a CT check at a hospital in east China's Zhejiang Province, where Yang and her husband were working.
Neurosurgian Kuang Yongqin said the 5cm needle had grown into the brain tissue and had apparently been there a long time.
