Macau launches building projects
THE government of Macau Special Administrative Region yesterday announced that 93 small and medium public works projects and 11 large infrastructure projects will be launched this year, with the aim of reducing the negative impact of the global financial crisis.
Construction has already started on about a dozen of the small and medium public works projects, according to the Land, Public Works and Transport Bureau.
The 93 projects, worth 5.1 billion patacas (US$646 million), were expected to create about 9,000 jobs.
The public works projects include street decoration, government building renovation and the construction of public residential buildings.
The Macau government will also speed 11 large infrastructure projects, with bidding expected to be completed by July.
Macau's unemployment rate for September to November last year was 3.3 percent, up by 0.2 percentage points over the previous period.
