Man shot after letting off crackers

A MAN was shot in the leg after setting off firecrackers in the street in northeastern China.

A man allegedly stepped out of a grey car and shot at the man surnamed Zhang six times after he set off firecrackers with his friends in Changchun, capital of Jilin Province, at about 7:50pm yesterday, according to the China News Service.

The shooter drove off immediately and Zhang was taken to hospital with one bullet wound.

Zhang, 20 years old, said he didn't know the shooter. His friend said the shooter's car had been parked nearby for about half an hour.

Zhang will be operated on today to have the bullet removed. He is not in a critical condition.

Police are investigating the case.
