No sign of foul play in suspect's death plunge
A MAN who fell to his death from a police station in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region had not been beaten up beforehand, police said after a preliminary forensic investigation.
Baise City officials said prosecutors did not find evidence that any external force had caused the fall.
Officials told yesterday's Nanguo Morning Post the investigation included an autopsy with the victim's family represented and lawyers present, and inspections of the scene.
But officials did not offer an explanation for the fall.
Huang Jinshui, 46, was caught on Sunday operating a gambling business in his games arcade. Police found 24 gamblers, 61 slot machines and three home-made guns in the raid, the report said.
During an interrogation at the police station that night, Huang fell from a window in the toilet on the fourth-floor and died of internal injuries.
Baise officials denied that Huang jumped to either commit suicide or escape.
Huang's family ruled out the possibility of suicide. Huang was wealthy and the penalty for operating a gambling business would not be very severe, they argued.
City officials said they have sealed a video-tape recording of the scene of the fall and promised to publish details of the investigation.
Several police officers had been suspended during the investigation, the city government said earlier on Tuesday.
