Police shoot kidnapper

A KIDNAPPER was shot dead yesterday afternoon in southwestern China's Chongqing Municipality shortly after he slashed the neck of the hostage.
The hostage, Liu Juan, survived. She was one month pregnant, Cqnews.net reported.
Both the kidnapper and hostage were sent to a local hospital. Surgery was performed on Liu. She is now in an intensive care unit, according to the Website.
The kidnapper died despite emergency treatment at the hospital.
Liu, 29, runs a beauty salon in Chongqing's Shapingba area with her husband, said the Website.
At about 1:50pm, a man in his 20s burst into Liu's salon yelling that someone was trying to kill him.
Liu and a female worker in the salon were frightened and ran away.
The man then entered a room behind the salon and found a razor. He abducted Liu when she came back to the salon.
Officers from a police station nearby arrived at the scene.
The man used the razor to cut Liu's neck, at which point officers opened fire.
