Porn police laud 2 Websites for cleanup
CHINA'S Internet cops yesterday praised two Websites that promptly filtered lewd content and criticized another site that failed to weed out vulgar content in a timely manner.
Beijing-based xilu.com shut down a picture-posting section that contained vulgar content, and Shanghai-based blogbus.com carried out a complete overhaul of its blog platform, according to a statement from the China Internet Illegal Information Reporting Center.
Both Websites took effective measures and deserved commendation, the center said.
Guangdong-based Chinawap.cn, however, failed to eliminate all of its lewd pictures, although it did shut down an offending album program.
The center said more effective measures should be taken to eliminate all vulgar content.
The center identified the three Websites last week in its sixth blacklist of sites that contain "a large amount of lewd content" and ordered them to immediately clean up their acts.
The Internet watchdog warned that it would shut down the sites if they failed to weed out their "vulgar content."
China has closed 1,507 Websites since the anti-porn campaign was launched on January 5.
More than 70 Websites, including major Internet portals such as Sina, MSN China and search engines Google and Baidu have been given warnings to remove pornography.
