Property boss killed in office

A MULTIMILLIONAIRE in central China was stabbed to death in his office, allegedly by a former employee in a dispute over money, a Wuhan-based newspaper reported yesterday.

Police have arrested Zheng Huajiang, who they say went to the office of Shen Tianzhi, chairman and general manager of the Xingli Real Estate Development Company in Shiyan City, Hubei Province, on Monday morning.

Zheng attacked Shen with a 30-centimeter Tibetan knife, Changjiang Times reported.

The mortally wounded Shen ran out of his office and collapsed in front of staff, saying he had been stabbed by Zheng and asking them to call the police. Staff locked Zheng in an office where police arrested him soon afterward.

Shen was taken to hospital but the hospital said he died at midday on Monday.

Zheng was an employee and shareholder in Shen's company in 1993 but left the firm soon afterward and sued the company. Shen gave Zheng 30,000 yuan (US$4,386) following the lawsuit but this apparently did not resolve their dispute.

Shen's assets were estimated to be over 100 million yuan.
