Rewards for secret cash

REWARDS of up to 100,000 yuan (US$14,647) are being offered to anyone who can offer information leading to the uncovering of secret funds held by government departments or organizations.
Secret funds are income that has not been recorded in official accounts, including illegally collected fees, fines, rental money and income from sales of property or money from higher tiers of government set aside for conferences, labor costs, training and consulting.
The CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, the Ministry of Supervision, the Ministry of Finance and the National Audit Office have launched a nationwide campaign cracking down on these secret funds, a common source of corruption, Xinhua news agency reported yesterday.
Informers will get 3 to 5 percent of the funds they help uncover, up to a maximum of 100,000 yuan.
Task forces will be formed for the campaign and Websites, hotlines and mailboxes will be set up to collate the information.
The campaign is aimed at government departments and government-sponsored organizations.
Self inspections are being encouraged and the task forces will make random checks on no fewer than 5 percent of the departments targeted.
