Stepfather suspected of bashing toddler to death
POLICE have detained a man for allegedly bashing his two-year-old stepson to death in central China's Henan Province.
Li Hailong, the 27-year-old suspect, allegedly battered the boy until he coughed up blood and fell into a coma on January 28 in the provincial capital Zhengzhou, reported today's Dahe newspaper,
The boy was sent to Xinzheng People's hospital three hours later. At the sight of numerous bruises, burns and bites covering the boy's body, doctors called the police.
After 61 hours of treatment, the boy was pronounced dead. His mother, Sun Fang, rushed to his hospital bedside from her job in Beijing. She told the newspaper that she had been pregnant when her mother told her to marry her step-brother Li, who spent all his time playing online games.
After giving birth to a daughter, she went to work in Beijing, which prompted Li to start torturing the boy, the newspaper said.
