Teen freezes to death as teacher goes drinking

A TEENAGER froze to death after being left standing in a school courtyard overnight when his teacher allegedly forgot him and went out drinking, the boy's father claimed.

Zhang Jixin, 14, was found dead in a gutter on December 18 near the students' dormitory of Wujing Middle School in Linqu County of Weifang City, east China's Shandong Province, today's Luzhong Morning Post reported.

School officials described the death as an accident and told his father that "Zhang had passed away in peace, lying on his back with his head to the east and the feet to the west," the newspaper said.

But his father said he was told by Zhang's classmates that his son was ordered to stand still in the courtyard as a punishment by a teacher who caught him leaving the school to go to the shop, breaking the rules.

But the teacher apparently forgot his punishment and went out drinking, the newspaper said, leaving Zhang standing outdoors overnight when the temperature was below zero.
