Top cop suspended after housewarming party
A TOP police officer in a south China city has been suspended from work while being investigated over allegations he asked more than 1,000 banquet diners for money to celebrate his new luxury villa.
The disciplinary supervising authority of Zhanjiang City in Guangdong Province announced the suspension yesterday of Chen Xizhao, vice director of Zhanjiang Public Security Bureau, today's Southern Rural newspaper reported.
Chen held a banquet on December 24 to celebrate his new five-story villa and invited nearly 1,000 people including colleagues and owners of local casinos and entertainment businesses.
He arranged empty red envelopes for the visitors to give money, according to a previous report by Xinhua news agency.
He treated the visitors to Martell Cordon Bleu cognac costing1,100 yuan (US$161) a bottle.
