Dog owners dyeing for change

THE latest fad to sweep China is for pet owners to transform their dogs into pandas or mini tigers with professional dye jobs.

Pet beauty parlors in east China's Nanchang City can now transform your dog into any cool animal owners desire, Nanchang Evening News reported today.

A customer surnamed Xu said he was once questioned by police when he was walking his dog that resembles a rare giant panda. Large crowds gathered to admire his decorated chow chow, Xu said.

The parlor owner told the newspaper that chow chows make suitable pandas, donkeys, goats or even aliens.

It can take four to six hours to transform a normal dog. Dogs that were not originally white would take longer and more money. The average cost is about 3,000 yuan (US440) and the dye stays for about three months, the report said.
