Don't dump your dead here says Thai town
A village chief in southern Thailand was so upset by the corpses of slain women being left in an isolated part of his town and predictions of a shaman that more were to come that he erected a sign simply reading, "No Dumping Dead Bodies Here."
Krajang Noondum, the chief of Khuan Kong village, said Tuesday that over the past several months the bodies of two women have been dumped on a rubber plantation in the town and some citizens are so frightened they refuse to drive by the deserted area at night.
"When villagers go to tap rubber at dawn, they are afraid that they may find a body," Krajang said.
Adding to that, the chief said, are the predictions of a local soothsayer who says more bodies may be dumped in the town.
"In our village, we have an old shaman who communicated with the spirit world," Krajang said. "He told us that soon someone would dump another woman's body in the same area and that was true. The old man warned us that a man's body would be dumped here so we want to take some pre-emptive measures."
Krajang said the two women - the first found last October - appeared to have been murdered, judging by the types of wounds they suffered. No one has been arrested.
The new sign in Khuan Kong, about 430 miles (690 kilometers) south of Bangkok, also warns against the dumping of garbage.
