Drunk man wakes up in container on way to be shipped abroad
A DRUNK man who mistook a freight container for his dormitory frantically called police after he awoke with the container being lifted into the air in Qingdao in eastern Shandong Province, China Radio International reported.
The man might have been on his way to the United States had he not woken up in time, according to a freight yard official.
The man, surnamed Jiang, was believed to have fallen asleep in the container about 4am on Friday. He woke up trapped inside at 7:20am with the container moving, so he called police for help.
More than 40 police officers and 60 freight yard workers were sent to look for Jiang since he couldn't tell them where he was.
Officials told him where to look for the container number and he was rescued from the giant box, which was suspended 20 meters in the air, about 10am.
Jiang was in good condition after he rested and recovered from the ordeal.
The container, which freight yard staff prepared for moving at 6am, would have been shipped to the United States the next day, an official said.
