Gay visitor deported for overstaying

An Italian man was deported from Shanghai yesterday after a 10-day detention for overstaying his visa, the Exit-Entry Administration of Shanghai Public Security Bureau said today.
The 55-year-old man, whose name was not identified, came with a tourist visa. While in Shanghai, he met a local man, 29, and fell in love with him immediately.
In order to stay with his lover and avoid the complicated visa procedures, he decided to marry the man's mother, a 53-year-old widow, hoping this would give him a long-term residence permit.
When the Italian and his lover's mother went to a marriage registry in Huangpu District last month, the staff found his visa had expired 80 days ago and his elaborate plan failed, Shanghai police said.
The woman said she had no idea about the fair between his son and the Italian as she thought the Italian man was having a relationship with her.
