Man dies of pesticide poisoning after eating roast lamb
A man in northwestern Shaanxi Province died after eating roast lamb from a sheep his son killed on a highway, today's China Business Review reported.
His son, surnamed Lu, hit the sheep while driving on a highway in Fengxiang County on July 5 and took the sheep to a restaurant opened by his friend.
Lu's father and his five friends ate the roast lamb the next day and they developed symptoms of food poisoning. Hospital tests showed they were poisoned by a pesticide. Lu's father died despite rescue efforts while his friends were hospitalized.
Lu told to the newspaper that they had eaten part of the sheep on the night of the accident but no one felt uncomfortable. They saved the remaining lamb in the fridge of the restaurant.
The restaurant was closed and the owner disappeared after the incident.
Local food safety officials began to investigate the case. The rest of the lamb was taken by police for examination.
