Swindler nabbed after plastic surgery and 5 years in hiding

A 52-year-old woman who had a plastic surgery and went hiding five years ago after cheating people of more than 2 million yuan (US$316,015) has been arrested, Chinese Business Morning View reported today.
Police in Anshan City, northeastern Liaoning Province said they received a report from the victim surnamed Liu in November 2006, saying she had been defrauded by a woman surnamed Ma in Beijing.
According to Liu, Ma said she could help Liu's daughter enroll in a Beijing university and charged her 300,000 yuan for this help. But it turned out to be a lie and Ma disappeared after taking the money.
Through investigations, police found Ma used to live in Beijing and had cheated victims of at least 2 million yuan, but they had no clues to her whereabouts.
A breakthrough came in October when police learned from Ma's mother that Ma was living in Zhengzhou in central Henan Province under the name Cheng Linlin.
Ma was caught on November 21 in suburban Beijing. Police said she looked like in her 30s and had a young boyfriend. They could hardly believe that she was the one they were hunting.
Ma told the police that she got to know her boyfriend on the Internet and she lied to him that she was born in the 1980s. The boy, also born in the 1980s, was completely taken in.
According to her confession, most of the money she defrauded had been used to buy a car and pay the daily expenses of her boyfriend.
