Woman sitting on window for free Wi-Fi sets off false suicide alarm
ABOUT 20 rescuers in southwest Sichuan Province rushed to rescue a young woman last Sunday after receiving messages that the suicidal woman had been sitting on a window for hours. But it turned out she was there only to enjoy a neighbor's free Wi-Fi signal for her smart phone.
The woman, her identity not disclosed by police, sat on a fourth floor window for more than two hours before someone alerted the police.
"I found her sitting there quietly with a cell phone and a bottle of water beside her," said the resident surnamed Li. "That was really dangerous! I was afraid that she wanted to jump and kill herself."
Police and firemen arrived shortly and waited outside the woman's apartment ready to get in. Around 6:45pm, the woman left the window and went inside only to confront a crowd trying to save her.
She told the police that she sat there to enjoy free Wi-Fi service and the best spot for her smart phone to pick up the signal was outside the window.
