Mr China Aviation: no more delays
DEAR editor,
I have been contemplating whether to write this or not and have decided that I should after experiencing three more flight delays in one week!
July 20: Shanghai-Tianjin MU 5145; July 21: Tianjin-Chengdu 3U 8862; July 22: Chengdu-Shanghai CA 1948.
My business schedule requires me to travel at least three days in a week, sometimes by car, train or plane.
I have been living in China for more than 10 years and never had experienced so many flight delays until a few of months ago.
Before there was the occasional delays but now it has become a norm. Therefore, a frequent business traveler like myself is finding it very frustrating.
1. Being late for appointments;
2. Missing appointments, which could mean missing an business opportunities;
3. Making clients wait;
4. Causing a backlog of late appointments;
5. Missing a connecting flight;
For example, if I have a meeting in Taiyuan at 12pm, taking the morning flight at about 8:30am should be safe since the flight time is about 2 hours.
If the flight is delayed for one to two hours, you will be very late for the meeting and may not be able to attend it!
After arriving in Taiyuan at about 12pm, you feel extremely annoyed that you are late for an important meeting.
I also have experienced, as have friends and colleagues, delays of up to hours, which is really annoying.
Who is to blame? Air traffic control, airlines, airports?
Actually I do not know but I hope the China Civil Aviation Administration could do something about it.
The usual excuse broadcast while you are on the plane is, "We apologize for the delay because of air traffic control ..."
It is now very common to hear announcements about flight delays while you are in the airport. The agony of sitting in the plane for three to four hours without knowing how long you have to wait is not a very nice experience.
The other people who are affected by this are:
1. The pilots and air crews who have to work extra long hours because of the delays;
2. People who are going on holiday. They may lose out on a day and have to make drastic changes because they miss a connecting flight.
I am sure a lot of people out there feel the same way I do.
Mr China Aviation, please do something about this and make our travels more enjoyable.
Thank you in advance.
