Use safe fire materials

WE have seen a number of terrible fire accidents now and it is my hope that the loss of lives, the pain for the families involved and the loss of property will support the development of use of fire safe materials in buildings.

The often used arguments that these might add to higher costs for the developer or construction company does not seem to hold up in the light of the losses occurring to the people living in the buildings who might loose much more than only money.

Decent installation of fire safe insulation material will pay for itself, not only in money saved but also for the environment, where less CO2 emissions go into the air and less energy is used while at the same time giving residents a better, more comfortable indoor climate where they can be safe, happier and more productive.

I sincerely hope that the search for preventing such horrible disasters will not lead to the abandonment of energy efficiency measures: it would be the wrong lesson learned if it is decided not to insulate buildings anymore. Buildings need to be insulated properly, with suitable (fire safe) materials that will protect lives and value while at the same time saving money and environment.
