Parents abet girls in animal abuse
ON Saturday, two little girls were found to have pulled the feathers from a peacock in a zoo in Wuhan City, Hubei Province. Instead of stopping this merciless act, their parents "patiently" taught them to pull out the peacock's beautiful tail feathers.
In the same zoo in April, a visitor pelted an elephant with various items. The irritated elephant used its truck to hurl objects back at the perpetrator, injuring him.
Why, in just two months, has the zoo witnessed one scandal of animal abuse after another?
It was reported that the two little girls who injured the peacock were about 8 years old. They could be pardoned for their ignorance, but the parents who aided and abetted the cannot be forgiven.
No less responsible were the zoo managers, who paid no notice to the trespassing children and parents.
