Parents gouged for security

A SERIES of random killings of school kids in China has promoted many kindergartens and middle schools to enhance campus safety.

But it's disheartening to learn that many kindergartens and schools have used safety as a pretext for charging parents extra money for a hodgepodge of security equipment like electronic entry cards.

Some would argue that the extra charges are reasonable because security levels are enhanced. This could not be more ridiculous.

When you admit a kid or a student, it's already part of your obligation to ensure campus safety. If you cannot do so, you have to compensate the recruits and their parents, not ask them to pay more.

If it's really beyond your financial ability to ensure campus safety, ask for government help. In this case, local governments have already increased investment in school security, so there's no reason for school authorities to force parents to buy electronic entry cards or other ridiculous items.

Now that our schools are so corrupted by money, how can they raise noble-minded students?
