Reckless media hype shallow lives of luxury

WHO are the idols of young children today?

Lei Feng is one of the idols, to be sure, but most other idols are entertainment celebrities, typically pop singers, actors and actresses.

According to a survey last year of 6,466 students from primary to high schools in six regions including Beijing, students are mostly attracted by celebrities' flashy appearances.

Irresponsible media outlets almost never describe how hard many of those singers and actors struggled before they eventually succeeded. Most media fill their editorial space with skewed reports of celebrities' luxury lifestyles. This misleads young children into dreaming that one can lead a life of luxury without having to work hard.

If this kind of idolization continues , aided and abetted by irresponsible media, our society will surely entertain itself to death.
