Selling bottled fresh air makes good point
ON August 11, famous philanthropist Chen Guangbiao smashed a bunch of electric bicycles in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province, in a campaign he launched to protect the environment from industrial pollution.
On the spot, he also announced he would begin to sell bottled fresh air in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou on September 17. A bottle could sell for 4 to 5 yuan (62-78 US cents).
Although the market value of his bottled fresh is uncertain, Chen's action is not just another mediocre show of behavioral art. He does alert all of us of the ultimate value of fresh air, which is under such grievous threat from industrial pollution. He has reminded us of a famous public-interest advert: "The last drop of water for human beings are their tears."
