Urbanization should balance urban, rural life

WRITER and preservationist Feng Jicai has pointed out that China had 3.6 million villages 10 years ago, but only 2.7 million today, which means 80 to 100 villages vanish every day.

When all the villages turn into cities and no one farms the land, where can we find food and what do we eat?

Data show the number of city dwellers has exceeded that of rural dwellers since 2011.

It is worrying that China has spent 30 years to carry out urbanization that took European countries 200 years.

Regional governments often purchase farmland at low prices to build high-rises as part of city expansion.

Therefore, a sea of young people swarms into cities where it is hard for them to be accepted.

Still, they do not want to return to their impoverished rural hometowns.

Urbanization should have been a long process that balances rural and urban development.

We should lose no time to accelerate infrastructure projects, promote the public service and distribute resources in rural areas.
