Festival embraces the blue ocean
THE Qingdao International Marine Festival is underway with lots of fireworks, sea sports, games, culture, parties and girls in bikinis.
As a coastal city with rich marine resources, Qingdao's festival slogan this year is "Embrace the Blue Ocean and the Carnival of Charming Qingdao."
The monthlong festival kicked off last weekend with a performance by the marine military band and a breathtaking fireworks show.
Numerous activities and events will be held through August 29, including tours of active naval vessels, yacht racing, professional diving, water bike and water skiing shows and pub culture.
The Cangzhou, one of the Chinese Navy's most advanced active missile frigates, is docked at the Olympic Sailing Center and open for the public. Sailors stand guard, ready to guide visitors and answer questions.
Competitions and performances include surfing, motor boating and windsurfing.
Professional teams provide entertainment, including water skiing acrobats dressed as cartoon characters.
Parties in the bar streets and in yachts at the sailing center are paradise for night owls, with jazz and other music, lots of beer, bartending flair contests, dancing and girls in bikinis.
