Wedding photos, gowns and lovebirds
SAPPHIRE blue skies, beautiful ocean views, spectacular mountains and greenery and charming European buildings make Qingdao a popular destination for couples taking wedding photos.
The wedding industry is growing in the city, as many stores on Wedding Street offer wedding planning, gowns and many services.
On weekends and during holidays, the beaches are dotted with newlywed couples in shining gowns and suits, posing in front of campers to capture their unique moment.
"Almost all of my friends come to Qingdao to shoot their wedding photos. It has been a trend among us," said a 30-year-old bride Xiao Shao from a nearby city.
"The beautiful beach and sea are a natural film studio," said the bride, who found the photo studio online.
She chose many of the famous scenic spots, such as Laoshan Mountain, Zhongshan Park, historic villas owned by celebrities in the 1940s and German-style buildings left by settlers and troops who occupied the city from 1897 to 1914.
The city's wedding industry has expanded significantly in recent years.
The 700-meter-long Yan'an Road No. 2, once crowded with dilapidated houses, today is home to more than 70 photo studios, offering one-stop wedding service. In 2004 its name was changed to Wedding Street by the Qingdao Economics and Trade Committee.
The local government undertook a renovation project to spruce up the street with billboards, Roman columns, statues of Cupid and European street lamps.
Since 1998 when the first Taiwan-invested studio opened, Wedding Street has attracted almost 50 boutiques selling wedding gowns and more than 20 big wedding photography studios.
More wedding services are offered, including makeup, video filming, emcees for parties, folk items and candies, peanuts, jujubes and other sweets.
