Yacht show to lure landlubber elites

AROUND 100 companies from 20 countries and regions will show off their yachts, power boats and sailing "lifestyle" in an attempt to get China's rich elites onboard.

More than 300 boats and sailing equipment will be exhibited at the 8th China International Marine Fair from today through Monday at the Qingdao Olympic Sailing Center.

It follows the successful 2010 International Ocean Festival held last month and will feature exhibitions, forums, "test drives" and competitions.

The exhibition covers 11,000 square meters on land and another 5,000 square meters on water.

Boats and boat products, water sports and equipment, dock facilities and yacht clubs will be featured.

The fair has invited most of the world's major boat manufacturers as well as yachting figures in China and elite potential buyers.

There will be lots of socializing and networking.

Many aspects of the yachting industry will be presented, including design, development, manufacturing, sales, yacht club operations, sports, high-end ocean tourism and aquatic entertainment.

A reception on Sunday will bring together sailors, fans, industry representatives, bankers, real estate developers, investment, trust and logistics companies in Qingdao.

There will be a public "test drive" of trimarans, a sailing competition, a beer carnival and other activities.

The "test drive" will be held from tomorrow through Monday at the Olympic Sailing Center. All visitors can apply for a free ride. The boats will be Australian trimarans, which are stable and easy for beginners to handle.

Nineteen boats will be tied up at the dock for the event.

A highlight will be a weeklong sailing competition on Monday. Companies in various fields and colleges have been invited.

It is hosted by the China International Trade Promotion Committee, State Oceanic Administration of China, Water Sports Administration Center of the State Sports General Administration, China Shipbuilding Industry Corp and the Qingdao Municipal Government.
