Run the Track on New Year
In a kind of traditional ritual, many of the city’s sports lovers kicked off their New Year by taking part in a fitness activity. The 2020 Run the Track attracted some 10,000 runners from 22 countries and regions to the Shanghai International Circuit in suburban Jiading District. They ran along the 5.4-kilometer motor racing track bearing the wish for a healthy year ahead. The participants, aged between five and 81, were divided into three competition groups — Elite, Public and Family. Wang Hongwei and Zhang Xinyan were the male and female champions, respectively, in the 21.6km Elite competition. As the defending champion, Wang created an event record by winning in 1 hour and 7:54 minutes, while Zhang completed the four laps in a time of 1:13.30. A total of 305 runners have taken part in all the six versions of Run the Track since 2015, organizers said.
