Iverson leaves Memphis by mutual consent

TEN-TIMES NBA All-Star guard Allen Iverson has left the Memphis Grizzlies just a few months after joining them as a free agent, the team said in a statement yesterday.

Iverson, 34, had been on a leave of absence since November 7 to deal with an undisclosed personal matter.

"The Grizzlies and Allen Iverson have come to a mutual agreement that because of personal matters that forced him to leave the team on November 7, Allen will step away from the game at this time allowing him to focus on those matters," read the statement.

"As a result we will be ending our contractual agreement with Allen, which will allow both parties to move forward. We wish Allen all the best."

Iverson had played only three regular season games with the team after joining them as a free agent in the close season and never appeared on home court.

The league's MVP in 2001, Iverson played with the Philadelphia 76ers for ten years before spending time with the Denver Nuggets and Detroit Pistons.
